Carson Wentz bids farewell to Philadelphia Eagles after ‘amazing trip’

To call his five years with the team a great trip, quarterback (Carson Wentz) said goodbye to the Eagles, his former teammates and the city of Philadelphia on Friday.

Wentz one day posted a lengthy post on his Instagram account after league sources told ESPN that he was swapped with the Indianapolis Colts for a draft pick in the third round in 2021 and a conditional pick in the second round of 2022 that can turn in a first round.

He wrote in part, “As one chapter concludes, another begins.”

In Indianapolis, Wentz will be reunited with Frank Reich, head coach of the Colts, his former attacking coordinator in Philadelphia, and help fill the void left by the retirement of Philip Rivers. The Eagles are likely to turn to Jalen Hurts, though they also plan to compete for him, as QB is not expected to go automatically after the second year.

Trading Wentz is the end of an unexpected chapter and year with the Eagles. He went from a former MVP candidate to supporting Hurts – a rookie in the second round in 2020 – while his relationship with former Eagles coach Doug Pederson broke down.

Wentz wanted to be out of Philadelphia, though the Eagles appointed former Colts attacking coordinator Nick Sirianni as their new head coach.

Reich, who has been the head coach of Indianapolis for the past three years, was Philadelphia’s attacking coordinator for Wentz’s first two NFL seasons in 2016 and ’17. With Reich at the helm, Wentz will take the reins of a Colts offense that finished 10th in the NFL overall and ninth last season.
