Cars are backed up on US 1 while hundreds wait for the vaccinations of St. Johns County to get

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. The Department of Health in Florida in St. Johns County on Thursday vaccinated people 65 and older for COVID-19 and lured a row of cars trying to reach its office outside U.S. 1 north of 16 State Road. Things could get even worse on Friday as the office will give vaccinations on New Year’s Day between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The row of cars waiting to enter the parking lot of the health department relies on US 1. Sky 4 flying over the premises from US 1 on Thursday afternoon showed that a long line of cars was backed up along the highway. People had to wait in the same queue, whether they had appointments or not.

Dianne Morse, a local dentist, said she showed up for an appointment at 10:30 and waited longer than three hours in line.

“The people who were actually supposed to be here, with appointments, are stuck in these lines and are probably not going to get their vaccines today,” Morse said.

While the people who were waiting, excited and happy were among the first in the province to get the vaccine, they complained about the lack of communication from the health department, and many heard about the availability of vaccination through mouth to mouth mouth.

Late Thursday, News4Jax said 280 doses of the vaccine had been administered, but a health department spokesman declined to be questioned as to why people without appointments were allowed to get vaccinated.

Beth Slate showed up without an appointment and waited in line for 3 hours. She got her vaccine.

“We understand they are not making appointments,” Slate said.

“It would have been better if they had elaborated on this thing with a plan and said, ‘This is what you have to do,'” said Michael Gurski, a resident of St. Louis. Johns County, said. ‘I tried many times yesterday to make an appointment – could not get through. Or the system is unable to take (or) the amount of calls. ”

  • Healthcare staff with direct contact with the patient
  • Long-term care residents and staff
  • Persons aged 65 and over

The province received 3,000 doses of the vaccine and began firing on staff of St. Louis on Wednesday. Johns County Fire Rescue.

‘We’ve seen over the last few weeks our COVID numbers increase dramatically, because it’s across the country, and we want to make sure our response to the front line that has such direct contact with the patient, much of the time with the sickest COVID patients, have protection, ”said Capt. Bob Snell said. “We protect our paramedics and EMTs so they can keep working and get out there and do their job.”

Last week, Flagler Health + received its first shipment of the vaccine and administered it to its healthcare professionals.

The federal and state governments directly administer the distribution of vaccine to residents and staff for long-term care establishments through private health care providers and pharmacies.

Fire Rescue said it would help administer the vaccine to the general public when the vaccine is more widely available.
