Car hijacking suspects dead after shootout with police on Highway 13 in Burnsville

Officers chased the stolen vehicle and around 3 p.m., the suspect allegedly shot several laps at police before crashing into the vehicle on Highway 13 near Interstate 35W and shooting at officers. Several officers fired back and hit the suspect.

The suspect, a man believed to be in his twenties, was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. No officers were injured.

Highway 13 was closed in both directions near I-35W while investigators processed the scene.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension sent agents to the crime scene and is leading the investigation.

Police said all police officers in Burnsville carry body cameras and that all camera data will be handled during the BCA’s investigation.

The officers involved in the shooting were placed on standard administrative leave.
