Captain Sir Tom Moore: British war veteran who walked for NHS dies of Covid

Captain Tom Moore, the centenarian war veteran who became a British closing icon after an epic sponsored move to raise money for the National Health Service, has died at the age of 100.

Moore’s family announced his death with a post on his Twitter account. He recently tested positive for Covid-19, and he drew messages of support from Prime Minister Boris Johnson and other prominent figures.

‘I’m so sorry to hear that Captain Tom has passed away in the hospital“Health Secretary Matt Hancock said on Twitter. “He was a great British hero who showed the best of our country, and I want to wish my family right now.”

Moore, who was knighted by the Queen for his charitable activities, raised more than £ 32 million ($ 44 million) for the NHS after walking 100 laps in his garden before his 100th birthday last year.
