Capitals score five unanswered goals during an absurd return in the second period

Someone pinches me. It can not be real.

In the first period, the Washington Capitals seemed listless. Awful, awful and awful. They conceded three consecutive goals to the Islanders and looked like they would eventually lose their first game in regulation this season.

Instead, we paused and scored their cardiac caps with pauses. five goals during the period they suck the most – the second – to take the lead.

Conor Sheary (1), 3-1 Islands

Conor Sheary started the score 9:07 in the period. After a John Carlson shot in front of the net is blocked, Sheary picks up the rebound and beats a surprised Semyon Varlamov to get the Capitals on the board. This was Sheary’s first goal as capital.

Conor Sheary (2), 3-2 Islands

One minute and 13 seconds later, Sheary passed again. The two-time champion of the Stanley Cup expertly diverted a high Zdeno Chara shot into the back of the rope. SHORTEST CLOTH ON THE ICE WITH THE LARGEST GUY ON THE ICE. Hell yes!

Garnet Hathaway, 3-3

Garnet Hathaway would draw the game on the next inning. Hathaway hit on the right wing and took a lob from Carl Hagelin and beat Varly to the other side of the net. It’s CATCHED.

John Carlson (PPG), 4-3 Caps

Three minutes and five seconds later, John Carlson passed from Ovi’s office and shot a Justin Schultz pass into the back of the net. THE CAPITALS HAVE THE LEAD.

Zdeno Chara, 5-3 Caps

And then: BIG Z. The tallest player in NHL history scored his first goal as a capital with a howler from the point. WHAT HAPPENS EVEN.

The Capitals scored their first 3 goals on 9 shots. They all scored in nine minutes and 23 seconds.

According to NBC Sports Washington was the last time the capitals scored five goals in a period, when Alex Ovechkin scored a hat trick during a game on January 18, 2020 against … you guessed it! The Capitals responded after Devon Toews mocked the Capitals with Evgeny Kuznetsov’s bird gland.

I also want to point out that this happened after I called the National Zoo pandas #BadLuckPandas during the first break.
