Now, another California-based electric vehicle, the Canoo, has unveiled a pickup truck with a cab forward design that puts the driver almost directly over the front wheels.
Instead of a hood, the Canoo truck has a flat front like a van. It offers more space for cargo space without making the truck too big.
The Canoo truck is 184 inches long, or just a little longer than a Toyota Corolla. It is much shorter than the Tesla Cybertuck, but the bed is six inches shorter. (The Cybertuck does have room for more people.) The Canoo’s cargo bed also has a extendable extension that offers two extra feet long.
The Canoo truck’s body-shaped body is similar to some trucks from the 1950s and ’60s, such as General Motors’ Corvair pickup, the Jeep Forward Control truck and the Volkswagen Type 2 pickup, which is based on the VW bus.
Disabling the engine also allows more storage space in the truck, in addition to just the cargo bed. There are more for example, in the front of the cabin. The door that folds down from the front of the truck can also be used as a work table, just as people often use pickups.
Similarly, doors also fold down from the sides of the loading bed to provide easier access to them. Those doors can also be used as workbenches.
Canoo expects the truck to deliver up to 600 horsepower and 550 pounds of torque from two electric motors, which is more than a V8-powered Ford F-150. The truck can drive more than 200 miles at a cost, the company said.
Canoo has previously unveiled two vans, one a work van and another a ‘lifestyle’ passenger car. The pickups and pickup are based on Canoo’s skateboard-like platform that enables a variety of body styles.
