Last night, Niantic announced that the Candy XL mechanics are getting a significant update. The official blog update for March has been updated to reflect:
- If you trade Pokémon, you can reward a Candy XL for the Pokémon you traded. The chance of receiving a Candy XL will increase the distance between Pokémon traps.
- If you walk away with your Buddy Pokémon, you can now earn a Candy XL.
- Legendary, mythical or evolved Pokémon are now guaranteed to reward you with Candy XL.
In essence, these changes introduce new ways to get Candy XL out of previously unplayed game loops. Leekduck posted a handy infographic on the topic:
All the changes seem reasonable, especially the guaranteed candy to capture shapes that evolve. Coaches at reddit have verified that the maximum amount of Candy XL per catch is 6.
