Candace Owens, conservative commentator and co-founder of BLEXIT, decided on Twitter on Saturday to condemn a bill being considered in California’s legislature that would ban the signs of “boys” and “girls” in big stores.
“California has introduced a bill to ban boys ‘and girls’ sections in toy and clothing stores from creating a ‘safe space’ for children,” Owens tweeted on Saturday. “They want retailers to pay a $ 1,000 fine for using the words ‘boy’ and ‘girl’. I can not express how positively contemptuous the democratic politicians are.”

Owens’ comments are in response to a bill introduced by California House of Representatives Evan Low and Cristina Garcia earlier this month that requires retail stores with at least 500 employees to “maintain” undivided parts of its sales floor. an attempt to create a ‘safe’. space “for children.
Some department stores have already phased out gender-based directions. In 2015, Target introduced this practice after customers suggested that identifying products under gender preferences was unnecessary.
“As much as I want to consider it a watershed legislation, it’s something the industry is already doing. We’re just trying to catch up,” Low told Sacramento Bee.
Low said he was also motivated to introduce the bill after the daughter of one of his staff members was frustrated by having to search for scientific toys in the “boys’ path”.
“That was the driving force behind this, and that’s how we can create a safe space for children in society today,” he said.

He said the bill will become even more important as children begin to return to retail stores after the coronavirus pandemic, to ensure they can shop “without stigma”.
If passed, the bill will take effect on January 1, 2024, and retailers will be fined $ 1,000 if they refuse to separate their clothing and toy departments.
