The game for the canceled remaster of the GoldenEye of 007 was leaked online in a two-hour long video.
As spotted by VGC, the entire game, from the start of the pond to the final credit, was shared on YouTube, giving us a glimpse of what a GoldenEye haven could look like.
The Xbox 360 port of the classic Nintendo game would reportedly be released by Microsoft’s Xbox 360 Live Arcade. It was canceled for various rights reasons, although, as you can see in the video, it was basically completed in its entirety.
GoldenEye would presumably be released in collaboration with Activision by Microsoft after they reached an agreement with Nintendo to completely revise the legendary game of the original N64 version released in 1997. Eventually the project was scrapped.
As you can see from the video, the whole game seems completely playable. Given how many rights issues are involved in the game, it will not be surprising if the footage is finally taken offline.
In the video description, it is explained that the footage was used by an emulator. “Footage from the 2007 canceled GoldenEye XBLA remake, full game on 00 Agent”, reads the description of the video on YouTube.
The game was first leaked in 2008, but this is now the first time we’re seen so much of the project. According to Phil Spencer, Microsoft boss, Xbox has always been looking for GoldenEye, but in 2015 Spencer tweeted and then destroyed the hope of seeing the game remastered.
His tweet reads: “GoldenEye rights are so challenging, they are watched many times. Many different parties to work with, we have always given up. ”
So far, the only way to play the original GoldenEye is on the N64, but there are modern alternatives like the manufactured GoldenEye: Source that have recreated the multiplayer mode.
But if you’re looking for more James Bond, you can take comfort in knowing that IO Interactive, the studio behind the Hitman series, is currently working hard. Project 007 for the PS5 and Xbox X Series.
