Canceled Castlevania Game Castlevania Resurrection Demo Found

Castlevania Resurrection is a canceled Dreamcast title set in 1666 that would have met Sonia Belmont and Victor Belmont via time travel. It has long been lost and seen as a holy grail for collectors and video game archaeologists. It is known to a small fan that it was shown to the press, but nothing else. It was eventually found and the game was even posted online, which is pretty remarkable considering how long it’s been since it last saw the light of day.

The game is currently not online for everyone to play and experience, although the owner has preserved the disc, but is apparently happy with the show’s flair and the game and does nothing else. Fair enough, but given how fragile slices are, it would be a shame if not properly backed up for preservation purposes.

The story of the game would have had Victory Belmont as a 1800s vampire hunter who ‘abandoned his lineage and left the area for fear of his fate as a vampire killer. The players would face a female vampire as the biggest opponent. “Why was the game never released? Well, according to the artistic director of the title Greg Orduyan, Konami did not have confidence in the Dreamcast, which is strange logic, since they could then release it on the PS2 … but I cut off.

In the demo, there are 5 environments and one boss battle that is in one phase of the game, and most areas do not connect to each other. The one does not load, and all can be accessed via the Start menu. This is an early beta and is not nearly a final product. Still, it’s definitely a cool bit of game history thought to be lost, and even if it’s at least not released, we know it still exists.
