As more Americans receive the Pfizer-BioNTech and Modern vaccines, which both require two doses, people are questioning what is and what is not safe to do between shots. One question that comes to mind: is it safe to travel after the first shot?
Andrea Michelson and Kelsie Sandoval, health reporters at Insider, reported earlier that it is relatively safe for people who have been partially vaccinated.
“A person who travels partially vaccinated has a lower risk than before he was vaccinated,” Amesh Adalja, an infectious disease expert at the Johns Hopkins University Center for Health Security, told Insider earlier.
The first dose provides some protection, which means you are less likely to get sick if you are exposed to the virus. Early research on the Pfizer shot also suggests that the vaccine may lower your risk of transmitting the virus to others.
However, to get the full benefits of the vaccine, you need two doses. While you are partially protected, it is still important to avoid overcrowded interiors.
This is not the mode of transportation – this is what you do when you travel
Adalja told Insider that travelers who have been partially vaccinated should give priority to avoiding overcrowded areas on their journey, which could be a hotspot for COVID-19.
For example, busy tourist spots during the spring break have been linked to the spread of COVID-19 in 2020.
If you decide to travel partially vaccinated, Adalja said you should skip crowded pubs and indoor eateries. You should also continue to wear a mask and keep your distance from others.
The safest way is to wait until you are fully vaccinated

Although the first survey offers some protection against the coronavirus, the safest way to travel is after you have been fully vaccinated. Currently, the CDC recommends that people should not avoid traveling and encourages people who travel to be tested for COVID-19 before and after their travels.
As previously reported by Insider, health experts believe it is best to wait at least two weeks after the second survey before traveling.
This ensures that the shots have had enough time to take effect.
Although the data show that fully vaccinated people are unlikely to be able to spread the virus, there are still some minor concerns, so it is best for people to still wear a mask and social distance after being vaccinated.
