California-related coronavirus-related death toll is highest in America

California’s coronavirus – related death toll has surpassed that of New York in the last day to become the highest in the country. According to Johns Hopkins University data, the state added 487 new deaths this week to reach 45,496 total deaths.

New York’s test positivity rate is 4.39%, and the state recorded 45,312 coronavirus-related deaths. Texas is listed third with 40,148 deaths, but has a positive rate of 13.67%.

The grim milestone in California comes because the state has had a slight improvement in ICU capacity, with 87% of beds occupied this week compared to 90% two weeks ago. The state also sees downward trends in new day-to-day affairs.
