California parent pushes for classroom opening
Oakley, California residents Claudine Zambrana and Thomas Will are responding to city councilors stepping down after being caught joking with parents who want schools reopened in a meeting.
California parents on Saturday responded to the Oakley school board resigning after mocking the people who are trying to reopen classrooms after a lengthy closure during the coronavirus pandemic.
“One of my biggest concerns is that we’re seeing it drag on and on to where I’m worried, by the time my kids are ready to go in next year, is school going to be normal again?” resident of Oakley, California, Thomas Will told Fox & Friends, along with Claudine Zambrana, another concerned parent in the city.
Will said extending the school closure is a fear many parents have. He also said that the school board did not ‘listen’ to the needs of parents.
“I think we should all take this step back and realize how shocking it is that there has been no real progress going forward in returning to personal learning because we see it. Private schools were back. My daughter is going to private kindergarten. She learned personally. ‘

The president and three other members of a Northern California school board resigned Friday after reports that they made mocking comments about parents during a public video meeting about reopening schools.
The resignation of President Lisa Brizendine of the Oakley Union Elementary School District was confirmed by Fox Superintendent Greg Hetrick to Fox News.
The other members – Kim Beede, Erica Ippolito and Richie Masadas – who make up the rest of the board, resigned later Friday, reports FOX 2 of the Bay.
Hetrick on Thursday apologized for what he described as the “really inappropriate remarks” of the board members, which were made during a virtual meeting on Wednesday. A group has released a video of the meeting showing board members complaining about parents wanting teachers to return to classrooms.

Will stressed that he had seen children ‘virtual education’ and ‘virtual recess with an adult supervising the activity’, saying public schools should have found a way to make school work during the coronavirus pandemic .
“Why does not a public school go back? I think the video shows why. Not because we can not, but because we have a school board that does not have the interest of children in their heart and they do not want the feedback of parents, ”Will said.
Will went on to say, “And we are not going back to school because we can not, but we are going back to school because no one really wants to bother because we have seen it elsewhere.”
