Desiree Andrade, whose son Julien was murdered in California in 2018, told Fox & Friends on Monday that she believes Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón is “in the wrong office” and “should be a public defender.”
“He will be a great public defender,” Andrade told host Ainsley Earhardt. ‘The district attorney’s office is about protecting our victims. I feel like … no one has our back and it’s sad. ‘
“It’s very sad when you have criminals about victims,” she continued. “I do not understand the world we live in now.”
Andrade made the remarks five days after Gascón hit what he calls ‘conservative media’ and ‘hardship types’ for the setback against his comprehensive reforms in criminal law, as he experiences an attempt to recall the families of victims.
Gascón took office in December and announced a number of changes, including halting the use of sentencing improvements, restricting when prosecutors can detain defendants without bail, ending the use of the death penalty in LA County and using the trial of juveniles as adults prohibit.
Many critics have argued that the reforms prioritize criminals over their victims. But Gascón pushed back on Wednesday, declaring that “reform will prevail”.
“Here in LA, we see a setback against reform fueled by conservative media, law enforcement unions and other types of ‘crime,'” Gascón tweeted Wednesday. “From fear robbery to intimidation tactics, we see history repeat itself. But this time, reform will apply. “
Gascón’s tweet also includes an article published in the Guardian calling the setback “propaganda”, saying the argument against his reforms is that people convicted of a crime do not deserve a second chance. not.

Andrade responded that Gascón had slammed the recall campaign against him, saying: ‘It’s sick to hear what he has to say’ and that he ‘can not blame anyone’.
“I fight for my son. I fight for what is right,” she said.
Andrade on Monday sent a message to the Liberal district attorney urging him to listen to the families of murder victims “who are all suffering under what he is doing to us now.”

“Give us a voice,” Andrade said, noting that Gascón did not reach out to the families of murder victims, herself included.

She also encouraged him to review each case independently rather than a ‘blanket policy’.

Andrade told Fox News that her son was “brutally” beaten to death after being picked up by “alleged friends” at his grandparents’ home.
In December, Andrade reportedly said she felt ‘sick’ after learning that special charges against three of the men accused of killing her 20-year-old son and throwing him off a cliff had been dismissed. under Gascón’s comprehensive reforms. Julian Andrade was the father of a 9-month-old child and, according to KTLA-TV, had a second on the road when he was killed.
