A California man said he was diagnosed with COVID-19 three weeks after receiving his second dose of the vaccine.
CBS Los Angeles reports that Gary Micheal, who lives in Lake County, Orange County, found out he had the virus after being tested for unrelated health care. Its symptoms are relatively minor, the report said.
He received the Pfizer vaccine, the report said. Patch.com reports that he received his first dose on December 28 and his second sting on January 18.
Dr Anthony Fauci, the country’s leading scientist on infectious diseases, said the latest evidence suggests that the two vaccines used in the US – Pfizer and Moderna – are even effective against the new variant.
A doctor interviewed in the CBS report said he was not surprised to hear of Michael’s diagnosis.
“I think I’ve heard over the last three weeks of six or seven independent cases from individuals who have been vaccinated with different timelines that have tested positive, and I think we’re going to see that more and more,” said Dr. Tirso del Junco Jr., chief medical officer of KPC Health, told the station.
Fauci estimated that between 70% and 85% of the U.S. population should be vaccinated to stop the pandemic that killed nearly 470,000 Americans.
