California lawmakers urge teachers not to fund money

A California lawmaker is appealing to teachers in the state not to pay their fees because they are necessarily going to fund Democratic affairs and help Gavin Newsom fight a repeal.

Kevin Kiley, R-Rocklin, tweeted on Sunday that teachers have a constitutional right to withdraw if they so choose and offer resources that will help guide them through the process.

Kiley told Fox News he feels compelled to help teachers who are frustrated by Newsom’s closure of schools in response to the pandemic. He said he had spoken to many teachers who wanted to be in their classrooms again, but were banned ‘by their union or by the governor himself’. ‘

“I have simply pointed out that you as a teacher have a very powerful tool at your disposal, and that is to deprive the massive unions that govern the governor of their power, which is their funding,” Kiley said. “It’s an option that, at least in theory, is available to every teacher, even though California politicians have tried very hard to make it.”

Kiley said it is especially important for teachers to know, as there is a memory of Newsom on the horizon and that the California Teachers Association (CTA) – one of the most powerful teacher unions in the country – is spending millions to defend them as they spent millions to elect him. ‘

“And so if you’re a public schoolteacher who’s very frustrated because the governor and the CTA have prevented you from being in your classroom and prevented your children from learning, the last thing you want is to have a part of your salary will subsidize “governor and the CTA to keep this corrupt power structure in place,” Kiley said.

Fox News reached out for comment on Kiley’s allegations, the CTA called them a ‘nothing story’.

“Mr Kiley is wrong and obviously does not understand the laws,” a spokesman told Fox News.

Newsom’s early response to the pandemic has been widely praised, but its favorite ratings have fallen over the past few months as its draconian closure measures have claimed their businesses and children’s mental health.

The state has seen tensions simmering throughout the pandemic, especially between elected leaders and unions for teachers over whether to teach in the classroom again.

While other states are resuming classroom teaching, the 10,000 public schools in California have mostly been closed since the pandemic began. As most of the state’s six million students approach a one-year anniversary of distance education, frustrated parents are struggling with the toll of isolation and intense screen time on their children’s well-being.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said there was little evidence that the infection was spreading to schools when the necessary precautions were taken. Yet the teachers’ unions will not send their instructors back to class unless they are 100% vaccinated.

Newsom said he would not have to reopen public schools, but wanted to “encourage” them and proposed a $ 2 billion plan that drew criticism from superintendents, unions and lawmakers as inadequate. Newsom was clearly frustrated and begged them to find a solution to reopen.

Newsom said sincere words to the educators that he was willing to negotiate, but certain demands, including the call by unions to have all teachers vaccinated before school started, were unrealistic given the shortage of vaccinations.

“If everyone has to be vaccinated, we might as well tell people the truth: there will be no personal instructions in the state of California,” Newsom said last Thursday.

The same day, the CTA again sent a letter to the governor criticizing his plan.

“The virus is currently at the helm and he does not have a calendar,” the letter read. “We can not just choose an artificial calendar date and expect to make a switch to reopen each school for personal instruction.”

Kiley attacked teachers’ unions because they were – more than any other special interest group – allegedly ‘responsible for the state’s deterioration’.

‘We saw it here during covid-19 because it is the power of these unions and their control over Newsom that has caused our schools to be done to a greater extent than any other state (and it is), incalculable . harm to millions of children, ‘Kiley said.

The malfunction sparked a recall campaign against Newsom. Remember Gavin 2020 – the main organization behind the effort – said on Monday that they had raised more than 1.4 out of the 1.5 million needed to qualify for a vote. They have until March 10 to collect and validate the required number of signatures.

Kiley predicted that the CTA’s role in closing schools would be remembered by Californians “beyond the implications of the repeal.”

“One of the things that can come out of this … in the long run is that the CTA has been destroying public education in California for a long time,” Kiley said. “They restrict school choice, they condemn poor children to failing schools, and they have created a public education system that does the worst of any state for poor children or any state other than Alaska.”

“Now that the public has seen so dynamically for what it is, I think it will be more difficult for them to play that game from now on and maybe there is an opportunity for meaningful education reforms.”
