Three days after the state paused to administer 330,000 doses of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine due to reports of allergic reactions, public health officials in California announced that there was “no scientific basis for continuing the pause” not to sit ‘.
The previously suspicious fate, Moderna 041L20A, was a week’s doses for the state. According to the public heath officer dr. Ian Hoffman, public health in Humboldt County had 4,100 doses of the group in the freezer.
The Epidemiologist of California, dr. Erica Pan, issued the following statement late on Wednesday in which he advised the suppliers that they can start using the vaccine again immediately:
Our highest priority is to ensure that vaccines are safe and effective and distributed fairly and efficiently.
Out of caution, we recommended that suppliers suspend the distribution of the Modern COVID-19 vaccine lot 41L20A on Sunday night. Yesterday, we convened the Western States Scientific Safety Review Workgroup and additional allergy and immunology specialists to examine the evidence gathered. We held further discussions with the Department of Public Health in San Diego, the FDA, CDC and the manufacturer, and found no scientific basis to continue the break. Suppliers who have interrupted the administration of the Moderna Lot 41L20A vaccine may resume immediately.
These findings should continue to give Californians the confidence that vaccines are safe and effective, and that the systems put in place to ensure the safety of vaccines are rigorous and scientifically based. Members of my family who have qualified to receive the vaccine as health workers or because of their age have already received the COVID-19 vaccine, and I encourage every Californian to get the vaccine when it is their turn.
Look at the working group’s summary of findings.
