At about 11,417, the registrations in the Tesla Model Y compact crossover utility vehicle are better than those for the Model 3. California registrations for Tesla’s Model 3 mass market sedan dropped 34% year-on-year to 7,044.

The total fourth-quarter registrations in the 23 countries where data were collected were 44,749, and Model Y accounted for nearly half of the registrations.

Registration numbers may not reflect the number of vehicle deliveries during the quarter, as registrations in the United States typically take about 30 days from the time of sale.

Tesla, whose shares rose more than 700% in 2020, is expected to report fourth-quarter results after the market closes on January 27.
