California deputy arrested, accused of ‘shocking ambush’

A California sheriff’s attorney has been arrested and charged after the district attorney’s office brought a “shocking ambush” to the boards.

Deputy Sukhdeep Gill, at the sheriff’s office in Santa Clara province, was arrested Friday and charged with vandalism and misconduct that falsely reported a crime.

The incident took place last January when Gill used the emergency broadcast button on his police radio just after 10.30pm to report that shots had been fired, according to a release by the district attorney.

Officers from several sheriff’s departments responded and a hunt for the suspected shooter began.

Gill told an officer at the scene that he was parked on the shoulder of a dirt road in Morgan Hill to urinate and while walking back to his car, he was shot by a person in a vehicle that turned off its lights. has.

According to Gill, he fired two shots at the vehicle, but the car sped away.

The district attorney’s office said Gill had no serious injuries.

“It appears that he was shot only once, and in a wonderful place – his camera carried by the body, which was destroyed,” the statement read.

During the investigation into the alleged shooting, Gill’s ‘story fell apart’, the agency said. Other evidence, including ballistics, also ‘revealed serious differences in the deputy’s report’.

“This case is staggering and disappointing,” District Attorney Jeff Rosen said in a statement. “The actions of Deputy Gill abused the confidence of his fellow officers and diverted public safety resources from protecting the community to investigate a made-up crime.”

Gill, 27, could not be reached for comment Saturday. His lawyer, Nicole Pifari, said: “I can tell you that we are looking forward to investigating the investigation and the related evidence to understand why these charges are being prosecuted.”

The deputy has been with the sheriff since 2016. He was placed on administrative leave pending the criminal and administrative inquiry.

The Sheriff’s Office of Santa Clara County said in a press release that if the allegations against Gill are true, his actions’ are not representative of the sincere men and women of the sheriff, who risk their lives every day to protect our community. serve and protect with honesty and integrity. ‘
