California and Texas support springbreakers as Florida beaches fill up

Texas and California have called on travelers during the spring break to reconsider plans amid fears of the rise of COVID-19 cases after photos and videos of college students packing up on Florida beaches flooded social media.

Popular destinations during the spring break in Florida, university students packed the beaches in bikinis, but no face masks in sight. The increase in visitors outside the state has forced a popular destination in Fort Lauderdale to ban visitors under the age of 23.

“During the Spring Break season, #WharfFTL will be 23+ for all guests with out-of-state IDs,” the announcement reads.

Other popular resorts, including Los Angeles, California and Galveston Island, Texas, have focused on a possible increase in visitors in the coming weeks.

Concerns remain high as several coronavirus variants across the country increase the likelihood of an increase in cases in any state.

LA County officials have highlighted travel advice – which is still valid – that requires visitors to have self-guarantee 10 days after arrival, reports LA Times.

“Please postpone the trip and continue your contribution to slowing down the spread so that our recovery journey is not sidelined,” Barbara Ferrer, director of public health in LA County, said in a statement.

LAX has already begun to see a “noticeable increase” in travelers as the spring break progresses, reports CBS LA.

Meanwhile, Texas businesses are expecting large crowds now that Government Greg Abbott has declared a return to normal after closing all restrictions.

Store owners on Galveston Island believe it will be important to keep COVID-19 measures in place, reports ABC 13.

“It’s just like usual, except for the cleaning, the guidelines and the mask wear,” Roberts said. ‘And when we see that the store, especially at the weekend, is starting to look at capacity, we have the numbers in our head, then we’ll just stop in front of the door and say you have to wait until other people leave. . ”

Galveston has seen as many as 300,000 visitors in recent years, which will mean a significant boost for businesses after a year of closure.

‘We are currently researching all of our industry partners to get a better sense of what their visitors are going to do. “But I think the best way is to bring your mask,” Woody said. “We want you to be able to experience most of the island, and there will still be a number of places that really encourage it.”

Corpus Christi police have issued warnings focusing on more traditional spring holiday issues than COVID safety: drunk driving, traffic jams, beach rubbish and fire hazards.

“We want everyone to have a great time on the beach for Spring Break, but we also want to make sure they are safe,” said captain Trenade Paddock Roberts.
