The San Francisco 49ers have enough needs that almost every repetition of a ridiculous concept will make a semblance of sense before free agency. No matter how free agencies shake things up, however, their two choices in a two-round spot from our friends at the Draft Wire can make a lot of sense.
With the 12th pick, the 49ers, Virginia Tech cornerback Caleb Farley. He is a highly regarded CB prospect who will likely be off the board by the time San Francisco picks up on draft day. They are happy in this mockery and he falls for them.
The 6-2, 207-pound defensive rugby did not play in 2020, but in just two college seasons he was able to pass six interceptions and 19 breaks. He plans to move in outside of the cornerback on Day 1 as a start. Given the number of holes the 49ers have to fill, it is very easy to see that they are in a place where they can turn comfortably early in the first round.
Their second pick at No. 43 overall fills a need on the inside of the offensive line with Deonte Brown, the Alabama guard. Brown both played in college, but he completed his career as a star judge for the Crimson Tide.
The spot on the offensive line was undoubtedly a weak point for San Francisco last season, and a scenario where they are aiming for one in the second round means they probably had a successful free agency that put them in a spot left where they could strengthen the position. with one of their top picks.
