Caitlyn Jenner gets advice from former Trump campaign manager Parscale on California governor’s possible bid

Parscale, who has known Jenner for several years, has agreed to help as a ‘friend’ and is not a paid adviser, according to the source. He helps her find people for the most important campaign roles if she continues to do so.

The New York Times first report news about Parscale advising Jenner, an American television personality and retired Olympian.
Gavin Newsom, the governor of California, is currently facing a budding recall effort that began last year, fueled by anger over the restrictions he has put in place to limit the spread of coronavirus in California. The repeal campaign gained steam as prominent state republics weighed their weight behind the organizational and fundraising efforts.
Axios reported Tuesday that Jenner spoke with political consultants to consider a candidate for the governor’s seat, citing three sources with direct knowledge of her deliberations.
Nearly six years ago, the famed American Olympian spoke in public for the first time about a transgender woman in an interview with Diane Sawyer, ABC, in which she also discussed being a Republican. Jenner voted for Donald Trump in the 2016 election and to E! in a 2016 interview that Trump “would be very good at women’s issues.”
However, Jenner began criticizing the former president after his government announced policies that turned back protection for the transgender community. In 2018, about a year after Jenner visited the White House to meet with administration officials, the White House announced a ban on most transgender people serving in the military, following Trump’s tweet on the subject.
“He’s not done a very good job yet, but it’s not over yet,” Jenner said in an interview with Variety at the time. But later that year, Jenner said she made a ‘mistake’ by thinking she could work with Trump to benefit the LGBTQ community and that she was no longer a supporter.

Parscale was praised by Trump and his allies as a digital guru who helped secure Trump’s first election attempt. He worked for the Trump family for years before Trump launched a presidential bid, and in June 2016, he led a role that led the campaign’s data analysis team. Until he worked on the Trump campaign in 2015, the digital media expert never worked in politics.

After Trump won the presidency in 2016, Parscale worked with America First Policies, a political Trump organization, and became campaign manager in February 2018.

Parscale was ousted last summer after a Trump rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and resigned from his role as senior campaign adviser in September, two sources close to the campaign told CNN at the time. Three days earlier, he had been detained by police and admitted to hospital for suicide threats he made at his home while holding a gun.

CNN’s Maegan Vazquez, Veronica Stracqualursi, Kara Fox, Kaitlan Collins, Hollie Silverman, Jeremy Diamond and Paul LeBlanc contributed to this report.
