Cadillac unveils Lyriq electric crossover infotainment system as new EVs compete with Tesla UX

Cadillac has introduced the infotainment system of the Lyriq electric crossover, as carmakers place a greater emphasis on the user experience of competing with Tesla.

Cadillac Lyriq

Last year, GM unveiled the Cadillac Lyriq electric sport utility vehicle, the first electric vehicle to use GM’s Ultium platform.

It hit a lot of points to make the EV community happy: great design, 300 miles range, 150kW fast charging, and more. The biggest concern was the price that GM did not announce at the time.

Steve Carlisle, president of General Motors North America, has confirmed that the Cadillac Lyriq will start at less than $ 60,000.

GM plans to launch the Cadillac Lyriq in 2022.

At CES, Cadillac plans to unveil a new user experience for its vehicles.

Bill Thompson, GM General Manager of User Interface Design, said:

With the design of the user interface for Cadillac, we started with a vision, but realized that we needed a new perspective and new ways of thinking to turn it into a reality. This is where Rightpoint and Territory Studio came into the picture. Both teams are incredibly talented and have brought a new perspective that has enabled us to design a personal and elegant user-oriented experience.

The new user interface goes after the Cadillac Lyriq coming on a massive advanced 33-inch LED screen.

They introduced this video of the user experience in the Lyriq:

Electrek’s Take: They have to compete with Tesla

Earlier today we reported on Mercedes-Benz unveiling a massive ‘hyperscreen’ in the EQS electric sedan.

Now Cadillac is also revealing a user experience built on a large touch screen.

I’ve been saying for a while that Tesla’s user interface is unmatched in the automotive industry.

Many carmakers rely on Apple Carplay and Android Auto, but I think they should focus on their own system.

I’m glad Mercedes-Benz and Cadillac are making an effort – although we’ll test it to see how much improvement they’ve achieved.
