BYU basketball: three takeaways from the Cougars’ 80-52 win over Pacific

BYU improved to 16-5 overall and 7-3 in WCC play with a standout victory over the Pacific.

Here are three takeaways from the Cougars’ victory.

  • After a back-and-forth start to the game with both teams’ baskets, BYU pulled away for good with about eight minutes left in the first half. The Cougars finished just one point behind a 3-pointer from Jordan Bell, with a run of 18-7 and rising 38-26 at halftime. BYU sustained the pressure in the second half, outscoring the Tigers 42-26.
  • Caleb Lohner led the Cougars with 19 points and nine rebounds. He was 6 of 8 from the field, including a blaring 5 of 6 from the three-point series. His 19 points give his BYU career a highlight.
  • Four BYU players provided the Cougars in double figures in a rounded offensive night. Lohner led the team with 19, while Alex Barcello and Trevin Knell scored 15 points and Brandon Averette added 10.
