Quick thoughts on a 63-55 victory over Maryland:
How it happened: Things seemed bleak for Indiana for the first 25 minutes. The Hoosiers trailed 15:14 by 15:14 in the second half after Aaron Wiggins, Maryland, swung a 3-point lead. With Armaan Franklin sidelined due to an ankle injury, Indiana’s offense was neutral.
But the Hoosiers, to their credit, did not stop. They defended a Maryland team that was starting to look tired. And Indiana has found an offensive rhythm. At 11:29, Indiana led 41-40 on an essay by Rob Phinisee. Maryland’s offense continued to push over the final ten minutes of the game while Trayce Jackson-Davis hit his offense offensively. Jackson-Davis scored 17 of his game-high 22 points in the second half to drive Indiana to its second Big Ten victory.
Outstanding: Jackson-Davis reached his third double of the season with 22 points and 15 rebounds. Race Thompson also had a great game and scored a double double of his own with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Statistics that stand outAfter his first three Big Ten opponents did not have a point per possession, Indiana suffocated the Terrapins defensively. Maryland scored just .85 points per possession, the second lowest output of the season for the Terps.
