The University of Zaragoza has published on the Citizenship Participation Platform Precipita un proyecto del Invasive Investigation Group (GITMI) about colapso traqueal with the aim of amplifying a clinical trial -which commences more than one year- and its follow-up to obtain more reliable results.
Hasta el momento se han reclutado 7 canine patients with an actual follow-up of 16 months, per the objective is to recruit 15 more patients and in this form increase the reliability of the study and can translate results to human medicine abarcando the two camps simultaneously, the veterinary medicine and the pediatric medicine.
The GITMI investigators participating in this project led by the doctor Carolina Serrano, Professor of the Department of Animal Pathology at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, and confirms that the new prosthesis with which it is working, known as CasMin Twine, reunite the winds of minimally invasive surgery and intend to solve the complications presented. The prototypes of the prosthesis are made of nitinol, a biocompatible material, superelastic and with a shape memory, which it has a suitable characteristic for its application.
WHAT IS THE TRAQUEAL COLAPSO?

In the case of animals, the dogs are the species where more this problem is observed, on the other hand, in humans, it is a frequent illness that both appear in major animals and is a degenerative process that intensifies with time. The alternative treatment for aggressive abdominal surgery, in which an extra tracheal aneurysm is located, which then supports the removal of the trachea, or the implantation of a metallic stent in the interior of the body.
