As the fast food chain explained, only 20% of chefs are women, which they hoped to change. Unfortunately, the social media users announced the way they announced the program – with a tweet “Women belong in the kitchen”.
Initially, Burger King UK defended its tweets, but the company has since apologized for its word choice.
“We hear you. Our first tweet is wrong and we’m sorry,” said Burger King UK wrote on Twitter. “Our aim was to draw attention to the fact that only 20% of professional chefs in British kitchens are women and to help change that by awarding culinary scholarships. We will do better next time.”

The company posted another tweet and explains that it removed the initial message that caused the outrage.
“It has been brought to our attention that there were insulting remarks in the thread and we do not want to leave the space for that,” the chain added.

As previously reported by Fox News, the Twitter thread that initially gave rise to Burger King UK again was intended to announce a new study program HER (Helping Equalize Restaurants). However, most commentators on social media reacted negatively to the first tweet in the series, which simply read: “Women belong in the kitchen.”
Even after Burger King UK made its intention clear, social media users continued to call the company for ‘misogyny’.
