Destiny 2The worst Exotics – the Aeon Cult gloves – are getting a remake in Season of the Chosen, Bungie announced Thursday in its weekly blog. The studio has unveiled additional plans to bring previously unattainable exotic catalysts back into play. And the blog post gave players their first look at some of the new loot in Season of the Chosen, including the new trials of Osiris weapons.
The Cult of Aeon Exotics – added in the Curse of Osiris expansion, the first after Destiny 2‘s launch – is one of the worst armor pieces in Destiny history. The gloves require other players in your Fireteam to use the Aeon Cult Exotic (Aeon Safe for Titans, Aeon Swift for Hunters and Aeon Soul for Warlocks). Using certain skills while wearing the gloves gives you the ability to give energy back to other players wearing their Aeon Exotics. It was a good idea, but in the end, the benefit was weak and difficult to coordinate.
Bungie takes this concept and adapts it slightly for Season of the Chosen. With the original philosophy of teamwork in mind, Bungie will allow players to customize their Aeon Exotics, making the gloves unique to their given situation. As of February 9, the Aeon Exotics does not have exotic benefits to choose from. Instead, Guardians can put special mods in their gloves to help their team in specific ways.

The Aeon Cult mod, called Sect of Force, fires fast precision shots to increase reloading and switching speed. But in a Fireteam, defeating a boss / minibus or being a staggering champion gives allies grenade and melee energy. If you’re the only player in your Fireteam using the Sect of Force mod, your allies will also get Super Energy.
Each of these Sect mods for the Aeon Cult Exotics work the same way. You get one bonus for yourself, one bonus for allies and an extra bonus if no one else uses the same mod. Ideally, this change should make Aeon Safe, Aeon Swift and Aeon Soul usable – especially in difficult content like Grand Master Nightfalls.
Bungie has also announced plans to bring back a number of exotic catalysts – upgrades to exotic weapon players that can earn in various ways – to Destiny 2. These catalysts were previously available, and players who have already earned them could reap the rewards:
- Bad Juju
- Izanagi se las
- Sleep Simulant
- The Huckleberry
- Worldline Zero
- Polaris Lance
- Telesto
- Legend of Acrius
- Skyburner’s oath
Bungie did not say how Guardians can pick up these catalysts, only that they will be available again in Season of the Chosen. The studio also noted that the catalysts for both Whisper of the Worm and Outbreak Perfected will only return after a future update.
Finally, Bungie gave players a better look at the upcoming arsenal of goodies to come in Season of the Chosen, including new armor, Trials weapons, Trials cosmetic loot, Vanguard weapons, this season’s Pursuit weapon and the Season of the Chosen Weapons.
