While it looks like Tom Brady plans to play in the NFL for as long as possible, there will be a post-Brady world in Tampa at some point.

It could take two years, three years or even longer than before a quarterback was needed to tackle the Buccaneers. Nevertheless, Jason Licht, general manager of Buccaneers, mentions a name they are already familiar with as the possible successor to Brady in Tampa.

Licht said via Taylor Jenkins of PewterReport.com that Blaine Gabbert may be the man they impressed with during his last two years in Tampa.

“In the first place, I like his energy,” Licht said. ‘I got really close to Blaine this year, but only on the sidelines. He’s really a smart guy, but he’s one man, my scouts and I talk a lot about this, he’s just one man I like to see put into practice every day because he has a cannon. He’s also very accurate with his throw and he can only really whistle it in tight windows. If he was forced to play, he would play in the Detroit game, but if he were forced to play more, I think he would have really opened a lot of people’s eyes on how talented he is, especially being in the same system to be for several years. ‘

After signing for Tampa in 2019, Gabbert missed all of his first season with the team due to a dislocated shoulder suffered during the preseason. Gabbert has appeared in four games for Tampa this season.

Gabbert started 48 times for four different teams during his 10-year NFL career. He has not been a regular starter since starting 13 games during two seasons for the San Francisco 49ers in 2015-16.

Since Brady does everything to keep on performing and winning, he may still be playing until his 50s. The question of who will eventually take his place in Tampa is therefore the question that will probably not have to be answered for a while.
