Bucky Brooks recently said he does not consider Mac Jones a top three talent in this year’s draft class. In fact, he does not consider the former Alabama full-back a first-round talent, so it’s hard to imagine the San Francisco 49ers spending four concepts, including three firsts, to move up to acquire him.

Media chats painted a curious picture after the 49ers traded to No. 3 spot on March 26th. Because of the history of quarterbacks Shanahan has worked with, speculation has skyrocketed and Jones has been linked with the 49ers.

The story has changed a bit since Justin Fields of Ohio State held his second pro day this week. 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch were in attendance, and Fields is now the favorite to succeed Jimmy Garoppolo in Santa Clara.

Nucky Media analyst Bucky Brooks spoke at the Rich Iron Show discuss today and discuss the 49ers options with their best choice. With several ridiculous concepts still portraying a Jones-to-Niners scenario on April 29, Eisen asks Brooks who he believes will be the choice.

“Justin Fields or Trey Lance,” Brooks replied. “I think the conversation about Mac Jones is just a conversation. I think if you’re Kyle Shanahan, and you’re moving on, you’re moving on to get some remarkable talent. the things you want to do on the text but do not.

‘Because at the end of the day, what you do is you have to compare your quarterback with the other quarterbacks in the division. And to be honest, Rich, the NFC has West Russell Wilson, Kyler Murray and Matthew Stafford. In any scenario, do we consider Mac Jones to be the player who could be better than one of the guys in the next two to three years? Because if we do not do that, we must not make a move for him.

‘But if we think about the extraordinary talents of the other two (Fields and Lance) mentioned, we can see how their athleticism and a combination of poor talent can give them the opportunity to succeed and some of the guys in the section to surpass. I think it must be one of the other two guys, and I believe Mac Jones is just a smokescreen. ‘

Brooks went on to break down Lance’s skills and NFL potential. You can watch and listen to the entire segment below.
