Buckingham Palace says the royal family is ‘sad’ in the first statement since Harry and Meghan were interviewed

“The whole family is sad to know how challenging Harry and Meghan have been over the past few years,” the statement said.

‘The issues that have been raised in particular are important. Some memories may differ, but they are taken very seriously and will be addressed privately by the family. ‘

The statement adds: “Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be very beloved family members.”

Buckingham Palace’s response comes more than 36 hours after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made a series of damning accusations in their first sit-down interview since retiring from life as senior royals and last year to the US moved.

Some of the allegations – including allegations of racism and Meghan’s admission that she felt suicidal during her first pregnancy – could have profoundly affected the royal family’s reputation and left a cloud of suspicion in some of its members.

This is a striking story, more to follow …
