Buckingham Palace gives an update on the condition of Prince Philip

Buckingham Palace on Monday released an update on Prince Philip’s hospitalization confirming for the first time that the Duke of Edinburgh is being investigated for a pre-existing heart condition while undergoing treatment for an unspecified infection.

Philip, 99, who has been hospitalized for almost two weeks, remains ‘comfortable’ and will remain in hospital ‘at least until the end of the week’, the palace said in the statement.

“The Duke of Edinburgh has been transferred today from King Edward VII Hospital to St Bartholomew Hospital, where doctors will treat him for an infection, as well as the examination and observation for an existing heart condition,” the palace said.

“The duke remains comfortable and responds to treatment, but is expected to remain in hospital until at least the end of the week,” the statement added.

Last week, Buckingham Palace finally confirmed that the royal treatment was being treated for an infection, but did not name any details or the heart condition.

Prince William said during an engagement a week ago that his grandfather was ‘OK’. Prince Edward told Sky News his father was “much better”.

“He’s looking forward to coming out, which is the most positive, so we keep our fingers crossed,” said the Wessex Earl.
