Buckeyes’ priority goal arrives in Columbus for visit
The recruiting period is still in effect, and the Buckeyes will not be able to offer any recruits until at least April.
But if recruits want to visit on their own time, it is allowed, but without contact with the Ohio State coaches. This is what Santa Ana (California), Mater Dei, the four-star lineout player Raessie Davis, is doing this weekend.
Davis is in Columbus to visit the city himself over the weekend and visit Ohio, a possible sign that the momentum is changing in favor of the Buckeyes for one of their two remaining still undefeated targets.
And the incoming freshmen who enrolled early have the chance to be in Davis this weekend. Lettermen Row’s Birm has more:
The chance for the incoming first-year class and their parents to Davis and his parents mean they do not has to spend the whole weekend alone. It can build a real relationship. Ohio State signatory Jaylen Johnson is also traveling to Columbus to visit Davis, and he has been instrumental in the program’s recruitment efforts to date.

Greg Mattison, Buckeyes co-defense coordinator, retires
After spending the past 41 years on the sidelines, Ohio State Coordinator Greg Mattison retired from football.
Mattison strengthened his legacy as one of the most respected defensive spirits in football with two seasons working in the state of Ohio before retiring Friday.
Mattison worked on both sides of The Game and spent time with Michigan and the Buckeyes. He won a national championship with Urban Meyer in Florida. He worked at the highest level in the sport while serving on the staff of the Baltimore Ravens in the NFL. And he built up the reputation of putting together a striking, fundamentally healthy, stingy defense wherever he went.
The veteran experience was key for Ohio State coach Ryan Day when he picked Mattison from the other side of the rivalry two years ago to anchor his first staff to the program. The move would always be a short-term bridge to the future, given Mattison’s age, but his knowledge of the game has been widely praised by the linebackers he has primarily worked with and the coaches he has coached at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.
What does Mattison’s retirement mean for the progress of the Ohio State program? Lettermen Row broke it down in a Rapid Reaction hosted by Byers Auto.
