The majority of South Korean musicians who made a noticeable impact on the Americans Billboard graphs (apart from the World Digital Song Sales rankings, which seem to be regularly dominated by the biggest names in that part of the world) are groups, but only a handful of soloists have also produced successful songs and albums. Just in the last few years, a number of names have appeared prominently on the major charts, such as the Billboard and Hot 100, as well as genre-specific scores.
This week, one South Korean star appeared on a Billboard radio rankings reserved for the biggest pop musicians in the business, which is now a title that also suits him.
Suga, best known for his work as one of the seven members of BTS, deserves his first hit Billboard‘s pop songs this time, and by doing so, he makes history among his countrymen.
The singer-songwriter joins collaborator MAX on the track “Blueberry Eyes”, which reaches this framework at number 40 during the 40s that occupy the tracks that reach the largest audience on a number of Top 40 radio stations across the US. tune is not yet a big hit on the voice, but by appearing at all, Suga has doubled the number of South Korean solo musicians who ended up on the list at any stage.
The only other South Korean artist to have taken on their own work and the Pop Songs chart is Psy, who broke barriers with his world-dominant virus sensation ‘Gangnam Style’. The song, which helped introduce millions of people to the electronic pop music that came out of the Asian country at the beginning of the last decade, once reached number 10 on the charts.
“Gangnam Style” still stands as the highest ranking in South Korean solo awards in Pop Songs history. Only one other single by any act of the country pushed further, as BTS’s “Dynamite” reached number 5 earlier this year.
Psy and Suga will surely be accompanied by other South Korean solo musicians at some point in the future, but for now the two are sitting alone in this very special, very exclusive club.
