Broward Mayor says the health department will vaccinate about 20,000 residents a week at 8 locations

BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. Broward County Mayor Steve Geller held a news conference at the Broward Governmental Center on Tuesday morning to discuss the COVID-19 vaccination efforts on the province’s health and the issues that took place on the site.

The Broward County Department of Health currently has three places open where seniors 65 and older can receive the vaccine.

The sites are only open to those who book an appointment online browardcovidvaccine.com, however, the site has been experiencing issues since its launch last week, and many people are frustrated.

Geller said the site crash was due to the large number of people trying to make an appointment and said more appointments would be available as more vaccination sites opened.

According to the mayor, the health department plans to open eight places and it will be able to vaccinate about 20,000 people a week – possibly more.

“As each new department of health services opens, they will reopen the Broward County website for new bookings for the first three weeks at that location,” Geller said. “The Florida Department of Health in Broward will also reopen the site while vaccinating each week, so they always stay about three weeks ahead.”

Below is a list of the vaccination sites currently offered by the Broward County Department of Health:

>Tradewinds Park, 3600 West Sample Road, Coconut Creek.

>Vista View Park, Southwest 142nd Avenue, Davie.

>Markham Park, 160001 West State Road 84, Sunrise.

According to Geller, the Florida Department of Emergency Management has instituted a vaccination “pods” at the following three senior communities:

  • Century Village in Deerfield Beach
  • Kings Point in Tamarac
  • Wynmoor Village in Coconut Creek

Hundreds of people waited in line at the location in Tamarac on Monday and some came out early again on Tuesday.

The team that works at Kings Point told Local 10 News things are going smoothly.

‘They go through the process where they register. We will look at symptoms, make sure there are no symptoms that could prevent them from getting the vaccine today, then we will do a basic health check, ‘said Christopher Todd, a representative of the Florida Department of Health. .

Todd said those who administer the vaccine will let the patient sit for 15 to 30 minutes after receiving the vaccine to ensure they do not experience an allergic reaction.

Geller said there are a limited number of vaccines available at each of the apartments, and they are only available to residents. Each community establishes its own procedures for administering the vaccines and how to register to obtain one.

The mayor said the Broward County Department of Health has already administered vaccinations to all nursing homes in the area and that the second doses will begin administering to residents Tuesday. Nursing home residents who missed the first dose can also receive their first dose on Tuesday.

CVS and Walgreens will administer the vaccines at their facilities.

Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava will give an update on the Miami-Dade vaccination plan on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
