Broncos, WFT, Jaguars, Chargers, Dolphins

George Paton was introduced as the Broncos general manager today, and the executive reacted thoughtfully when he explained how he would help re-establish a winning culture in Denver.

“There will be no shortcuts,” Paton said (via the team website). ‘We are going to take the daily embrace [process], we’re going to embrace the meal, and we’re going to do it together. … We will be progressive, we will be innovative, think ahead and use all the information at our disposal to make the best informed decisions. ”

Paton also noted how important it is to embrace the concept and be innovative in evaluating potential acquisitions.

“The drafting and development of players will be our foundation,” Paton said. “It’s going to be the lifeblood of this football team.”

Paton has signed a six-year deal with the Broncos. Under the restructured front office, Paton and head coach Vic Fangio will report to John Elway, which has less to do with the team’s daily roster decisions.

Let’s take a look at some more GM and coaching notes …

  • Washington previously interviewed Eric Stokes for their open vacant general manager, reports Jason La Canfora (via Twitter). The 47-year-old has been working in the NFL front office since 2002, including with the Seahawks, Buccaneers, Dolphins, en Panthers. He joined Washington last summer as director of pro-reconnaissance. We learned yesterday that Washington is expected to eventually appoint Panthers GM Marty Hurne for the position.
  • Scott Linehan and Joe Cullen will conduct maintenance for the Jaguars public coordinator positions this week, reports NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport (via Twitter). We learned from Urban Meyer‘s interest in both coaches this past weekend. Linehan, who is a candidate for the offensive coordinator performances, has had a long career as a coach, including the Rams head coach. Cullen, a candidate for the opening of the defense coordinator, has been coaching the defense line in Baltimore since 2016. Rapoport notes that Raheem Morris was also a candidate for the opening of the defense coordinator, but we have since learned that Morris will take on the same role as the Rams.
  • The Chargers will not retain offensive coach James Camps, reports ESPN’s Adam Schefter (via Twitter). Campen spent more than a decade with the Packers, and after a one-season stint with the Browns, Campen joined the Chargers last season as their attacking coach. However, he will not stay, as Schefter notes that the new head coach Brandon Staley will bring in his own Olympic coach.
  • The Dolphins separated from the offensive line coach Steve Marshall and promote Lemuel Jeanpierre to the role, reports Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle (via Twitter). Marshall has spent more than a decade coaching in the NFL, and he joined Miami last season. Jeanpierre spent time coaching the Seahawks, Raiders and Dolphins and served as Miami’s assistant attacking coach in 2020.
