Broncos release cornerback AJ Bouye

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – The Broncos have released cornerback AJ Bouye, the team announced Wednesday.

Bouye appeared in just seven games for the Broncos in 2020 when he battled a series of injuries. He was later suspended for the last four games of the season.

Denver acquired Bouye in March 2020 for a fourth round in hopes of returning the 2017 All-Pro cornerback to the second team. Bouye instead recorded just six tackles and 23 tackles on the year.

Bouye has not scored an interception for the first time since taking on a role as an appetizer in 2014.

He suffered a shoulder injury in the first week against the Titans which landed him on IR until week 7. He then suffered a concussion late in Week 8 which kept him out of the team’s Week 9 game against Atlanta. Late in the season, Bouye was suspended six games for violating NFL policy on performance-enhancing drugs.

Bouye has served out four games of his suspension and would have missed the first two games of 2021 if he had stayed with the Broncos.

Veteran cornerback Bryce Callahan and Michael Ojemudia, the third round of 2020, remain under contract for Denver, including the players.
