A New York real estate agent has shocked social media users after showcasing a small apartment that costs $ 1,650 a month to rent.
The West Village studio not only has a stove or oven, a small fridge and a small cupboard, but it does not even have its own bathroom.
Instead, for $ 1,650 a month, residents have to share a toilet and a shower – which are also in separate rooms – with the entire complex.
Tenants will need to make sure they do not lose their keys as it is necessary to get in the bathroom and in the shower.
The astronomical price for the Manhattan apartment – located on 5th Ave and 11th St near New York University – is not even as high as it could have been before the pandemic, with prices continuing to fall because affluent New York residents stay in exodus.

A realtor in New York shocked social media users with the worst apartment ever seen

For $ 1,650 a month, the tenant lives in a room without a proper kitchen or bathroom.

Social media claims it may not be the right price for the apartment

“How’s it legal?” another asked under the TikTok video
The video was shared by the new TikTok account New York City Realtor (@newyorkcityrealtor) – managed by Cameron Knowlton and Tatum Kelly – which has already garnered 2.4 million likes on six videos in less than a week.
After showing the first videos with larger residences of $ 10,000 a month, Knowlton then showed the worst place he had ever encountered, pointing out that as a realtor he did not determine the rent.
“I posted the worst apartment ever in a Facebook group a few years ago,” he explained to DailyMail.com.
‘I just started in real estate and struggled to get by. It was my first job as a broker (a lot of our work) and the internet ripped me apart. I received death threats.
“People would call me all day to insult me and what not. “They said I was the worst realtor ever,” Knowlton added.
He decided to try again this year with his new TikTok account, eager to show what the wells of NYC real estate can really mean, and to do so on his own terms.
Knowlton says he is not affiliated with the building, but that he came across it as an open listing, which anyone with a fixed license can show to potential tenants if they wish.
“People ask me, what’s the worst apartment you’ve ever seen, I’m going to show you,” Knowlton said in the TikTok recordings before cutting to the single-room house.
And before you ask, yes, this is a real apartment. This is what brings $ 1650 to you in the most popular neighborhood in New York City.
“No oven, one fridge, no stove and only one cupboard.”
In total, he manages to show off the entire apartment within seconds.
In a second video, he reveals the bathroom situation, which he says is ‘just as bad as you can imagine’.
“Imagine you’re in your dining room and you have to go, follow me,” he says while still standing in the apartment.
He adds to the caption that it is not just your dining room the ‘living room, kitchen, bedroom and closet’.

The apartment has a shared bathroom and shower in the hallway

The toilet and shower are kept in separate rooms and only accessible with a key

The broker joked that even the soap would share in the shower room
“Here is the first part of the bathroom and you will need your key because it is for security purposes,” the broker claims as he gets up in the hall.
‘Now, here’s the toilet shared by the whole complex. You can see that it is actually pretty clean, and there is also no sink.
“And if you want to take a shower, you’ll have to go to the other part of the hallway,” he adds.
‘Now remember your key and here’s the shower. Not too bad, not too poor, and here are some shared soaps if you like it. ‘
Knowlton adds that this shower ‘is also shared by the whole complex’ in the captions.
Others who watched TikTok were appalled at how little a tenant got and claimed in the comments below ‘it must be a joke’.

TikTok users were horrified at how small the apartment was

“It’s double my house payment on a 1,900-square-foot home in Texas,” said one user.
“HOW IS IT LEGAL,” Jilly asked, while Blyssed said, “college lodging is better than that.”
“It’s not an apartment. It’s a compartment, ” says a user named Reanie.
“And people thought we were joking when we said that the apartments in New York were like a closet,” claims another named Kels.

Many joked about the bathroom and the spread of coronavirus

Jack Nelson joked, “I thought Harry Potter was bad,” while Yasmin Aubry said, “People in prison live better.”
Most of the comments were about the bathroom situation, and viewers joke that ‘Starbucks is 3 blocks away’.
“Athlete’s foot is typing,” wrote a user named Brendan.
Many users also joked about the pandemic with Signemanderson saying, ‘I just know that the COVID is 30, flirtatious ad that thrives in that building’.
‘Whole complex ?! No SINK !!! THE GERMS ON THE HANDLES OMGGGG, ‘said user Sumaya.
“And now we know exactly why the ‘rona spread so badly in NYC last spring,'” Emily Miller Jocham added.
Despite the criticism, some rented the apartment, although it was not long.
It was last listed for rent in October 2019, meaning its last resident may have stayed just over a year.
Knowlton also said the response was “100 percent” more positive than the last time he highlighted the “worst apartment in NYC,” and he is now using his viral fame to raise money for the homeless in his latest TikTok video.
