Diane Sawyer gets setback for an interview she did with Britney Spears in 2003 after it appeared in a documentary about the pop star.
The ‘Toxic’ singer is the subject of an unauthorized documentary entitled ‘The New York Times Presents: Framing Britney Spears’ which delves into the media’s handling of her during her earlier days of fame as well as her ongoing battle against conservatism with her father .
One part of the documentary uses footage from Sawyer’s ‘ABC Primetime Thursday’ interview. At the time, it was a “no hold on” call on the singer’s personal life amid her very public rift of co-pop star Justin Timberlake.
People in the documentary notice how the media portrayed Spears as the heartbreaker in the narration of their diverse celebrities, and use Sawyer’s interview to demonstrate this.

Elsewhere in the interview, Sawyer also questioned the star about a death threat she received from former Maryland first lady Kendel Ehrlich.
“Oh, that’s awful,” Spears says. “It’s really bad.”
“Because of the example for children and how difficult it is to be a parent,” Sawyer says, apparently defending Ehrlich’s remarks.
“Well, it’s really sad that she said that. Ew,” Spears replied. “I’m not around here, you know, babysitting her children.”
The portion of the documentary concludes with Spears crying and asking to stop the interview after Sawyer asked her about a particularly difficult year.
Years later, after being painted in a new light by the documentary for many people, they take to social media to introduce Sawyer to the interview.
