A British woman has given birth to two babies at the same time – according to new reports, they were conceived three weeks apart.
Rebecca Roberts, 39, was already pregnant with her son, Noah, when she gave birth to her daughter, Rosalie.
“We feel really happy. ‘It’s so lucky to have twins anyway, but to have such special twins, it’s so lovely, it’s wonderful, it’s a blessing,’ ‘Roberts said.
Roberts said she and her husband, Rhys, went to a fertility clinic in Bath, England, to get a remedy to help ovulation.
“In my first cycle of that drug, we got pregnant,” she told CBS News.
Only in the twelve-week investigation into her first baby did she expect two children.
‘I just had a conversation with the sonographer about my previous scan, so she was aware that I was only getting one baby, so she was so quiet. “I thought something terrible had happened because she did not say anything,” she told the Independent.
‘Then she looked at me and said,’ Do you know you’re expecting twins? My heart skipped a beat, I actually told her ‘is he real?’
Roberts became pregnant with the twins through a phenomenon called superfetition.
It occurs when an egg is released from a woman’s ovary after she is already pregnant and implanted next to the first embryo.
Superfetition – called ‘super-twins’, is very rare and there are only a few documented cases in the world, the stores report.
Although her babies had different due dates, Roberts both gave birth on the same day in September 2020, the stores reported.
“They cannot be born separately because there is a high risk of infection,” Roberts said. “It was strange, because Rosalie’s expiration date was three weeks after Noah.”
But she said she was grateful for the experience that taught her that ‘anything is possible’.
“It did not have to happen, but it did. The female body is incredible, “she told CBS News.
