A British teacher ticked off parents when she accidentally read to her class a doctored video of a children’s poem – which made the once harmless prose about incest.
The unknown teacher at Ings Primary School in East Yorkshire wanted to send her fifth- and sixth-grade students a video of children’s author Michael Rosen reading his poem “The Car Trip,” The Sun reported on Thursday.
Instead, she sent a disgraceful parody of the story called ‘The Horrible Car Trip’ to the class, which split the video to make it about incest.
“Teachers need to watch what they send to children and not just be lazy and post random links that they have not confirmed,” said an angry father who listened to the video with his daughter.
“I first heard it halfway through when I was working and she was sitting next to me struggling to answer the questions,” he said. “So I had to listen to the poem properly and realize that something was terribly wrong with what she was listening to, and turned off the video.”
He said the video had been going on for more than an hour before it was pulled.
The teacher sent the video via Google Classroom while teaching the 9- and 10-year-old students at a distance due to the coronavirus pandemic, the exhaust valve said.
Rosen, a popular children’s author, wrote ‘The Car Trip’ about siblings arguing in the back of the family car during a trip with their mother – but the innocent story was turned into a sick parody in the doctored video .
Red-faced school officials were forced to apologize to parents.
“The poem was uploaded incorrectly and we apologize for this sincere mistake,” school principal Kath Roe said in a message. “We would also like to thank the parent who contacted us immediately after noticing the error.”
“Changes have been made in the upload process, and we will make sure that the content shared with our students is thoroughly monitored by our learners,” she wrote.
