British lawmaker wants curfew – for men only – after Sarah Everard’s murder

A British lawmaker has proposed a curfew rule for men at 6pm after a London woman was killed while walking home at night – in a case that shocked the country and sparked an intense debate over women’s safety has.

Baroness Jenny Jones, a member of the Green Party of the House of Lords, made the extreme proposal on Wednesday during a debate on the domestic abuse bill.

‘In the week that Sarah Everard was abducted, and we suspect that she was killed because remains were found in a bushveld in Kent, I would argue that at the next opportunity for appropriate bills, I would make an amendment to “creating an evening clock for men after 18:00 on the street, which in my opinion would make women much safer and reduce discrimination of all kinds,” Jones said according to the Independent.

But Jones was quickly forced to explain that her proposal was “not a completely serious proposal” and not a party policy after an avalanche of criticism from voters and fellow lawmakers.

‘OMG the world is going crazy. The greens are reminiscent of a men’s evening clock after 6pm at night – I’ve heard it all by now, ‘said Conservative leader Susan Hall. tweeted Thursday.

Jones explained in an interview with Sky News on Friday that she makes a point about the guilt that women often experience.

‘I was just trying to emphasize that when we blame the police victim by asking women to stay home, we do not respond. We think this is normal, ‘the legislature said.

‘That no one is actually upset when the police, for example, suggest that women should stay at home. But if I imagine it, men are in arms. ‘

Everard, 33, disappeared last week when he walked home from a friend’s house in Clapham, south London.

On Tuesday, London police officer Wayne Couzens, who includes the protection of the royal family, was arrested on charges of kidnapping, murder and indecent exposure in connection with the case.

Meanwhile, Jones said she welcomed the inquiry into her ‘proposal’ and hoped it would lead to a meaningful discussion on gender roles and public safety.

‘Since my remarks about a curfew rule for men to keep women safe, I’ve had an avalanche of misogynistic emails and tweets. It rather proves my point about the problem with men, “said the legislature. tweeted Thursday.
