There are BIG SPOILERS ahead! If you have not yet completed the series, feel free to check it out and come back !!

As you know, the final scene revealed that PENELOPE FEATHERINGTON, of all people, is Lady Whistledown! Talk about a plot!

Netflix

Just think of all the times Eloise has performed Lady Whistledown, and Penelope has changed the subject or misdirected her friend’s attention! It all makes sense now !!

The 33-year-old explained exactly how she found out the identity of Lady Whistledown.

“When I auditioned for the program, I did not have full texts, I did not read the books. I started diving into the Bridgerton books. And then I went to the fan forums, because I realized pretty quickly what a big fandom there is. I read a summary of one of the books that says, “When Penelope is revealed as Lady Whistledown.” And I thought, “What ?!” But then I do not know, because it is an adjustment, so it can not be guaranteed. They could have changed that. ‘

When I finally sat down with our showrunner, Chris Van Dusen, I said, ‘Am I his? “He said, ‘Yes, you are.’ But at that point they did not even know if they would reveal it, if they would do a red herring or whatever. ‘

“But for me to know it was really important because it changes everything to her. That means she’s this crazy active listener all the time. She’s the lowest character in any room, but she’s also the highest status. She’s ‘controls the whole of London society, while being looked down upon as this total wallflower. It informed me how I played the role.’

Nicola also sometimes kept the secret to herself, in parallel with her character.

“Sometimes people would say, ‘I wonder who’s Whistledown?’ “And I would go, ‘Do you want to know?’ I would not spoil it for everyone who does not, but then it was so nice to see people’s reactions. They say, “Penelope ?!” “I know, is not it? Is not it crazy?” But it was funny because it became a real secret to me not to tell people. ‘

Then Nicola gives her thoughts on the motivation of Penelope to become the infamous writer.

“[Penelope’s] really hard to describe in a few words because she is complicated but then people are too. Real life is not Disney, where there are the goodies and the bad stuff. ‘

“Penelope is all that. She’s really sweet, but then she’s super accommodating, and she’s obviously learned to keep secrets. I have to look at her family dynamics. She’s such an outsider in that family. Her sisters have each other “Her mother is very independent, her father does not pay attention to her, so I think she was used to just internalizing her thoughts.”

‘Because she’s been bullied all her life, she’s been trying to find an outlet. She’s so spicy and biting and all that stuff, but I do not think she’s necessarily got the confidence to say these things out loud. think she is also a real classic writer, because often you meet writers, and they write these enormous character traits, and personally they are so quiet. This is a release for her. ‘
