Bridgerton author Julia Quinn says Daphne and Simon must return and ‘interfere’ in series two

Bridgerton’s author has said she wants Daphne and the Duke of Hastings to return in series two, though that is not the main focus of her second book.

Julia Quinn, 52, has sold more than 10 million novels during her incredible career and wrote the inspiration behind the Netflix hit – The Duke and I – 21 years ago.

However, while the program is on its way to the second season, based on the book The Viscount Who Loved Me, Julia has revealed that she wants bosses to deviate from the plot, and that they include plays featuring the characters of Phoebe Dynevor and Rege-Jean Page.

Regarding the couple returning in an interview with The Sun, Julia said: ‘I hope so. They do appear in the [second] book. The series does not follow the word word for word – and I do not think [it] must.

‘I hope, therefore, for no other reason than Daphne, she has the right to interfere with Anthony’s life. To deny her that the chance would be criminal. I think it will be wonderful to see. ‘

Julia also teased what fans can expect in the much-anticipated series two, which focuses on Bridgerton’s oldest brother, Anthony.

She said: ‘Anthony is going to get it bad. Jonathan Bailey played him so well; you still love him, but he has to pick up a pen, and he’s going to take down so many pens. This is wonderful. ‘

In the first series, Anthony was seen wanting to be the head of his large household while falling in love with opera singer Siena Rosso (played by Sabrina Bartlett).

Although viewers had to see an excerpt from his story, and a bit of the other five Bridgerton siblings’ lives in the first season, it mostly focused on Daphne.

Julia also revealed that her friends and family have told her not to raise her hopes about the series being made into a TV show, as many novels are preferred and not filmed in Hollywood.

However, after Bridgerton’s incredible success after the launch on Christmas Day, Julia joked that she had now become her uncle’s favorite family member and even had to send him signed copies to hand over to the nurses at his home.

In the first month of streaming, Bridgerton was watched by 82 million households around the world and was a leading show in several countries.

The tumultuous series talked a lot about its steamy content, and several stars revealed that they could not watch with their families.

Striking star Nicola Coughlan recently admitted that she watched the show with her mother due to the ‘non-stop’ sex on screen.

“I knew very well how the episodes went and the amount of sexiness in them,” she told the Make It Reign podcast. ‘When I showed her the first episode and Johnny Bailey’s bum very quickly appeared in episode 1, she was like’ what’s up! ‘

“I had to say, ‘it’s not my fault I did not write it, it’s novels and it’s a very important part of the story,’ but I was still in trouble. ‘

Nicola, 34, who plays Penelope Featherington, explained how episode 6 – titled Swish – was the most uncomfortable to watch with her mother.

“With episode 6, I thought, ‘Oh my God, what am I going to do? It’s incessantly swinging! I’m going to be in so much trouble’. I said ‘shagging’ on the Graham Norton show and I was dead.

“I was sweating when I looked back! What I finally did was just send through all the sexy bits quickly and at the end of the episode she said, ‘that one was very short!’

When asked if his family saw the more mature scenes of the show during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show, Rege-Jean said: ‘There are some nieces missing in the family WhatsApp group, and they said: ‘We made our tactical cups of tea when you started and when we came back, you’re still going! ”
