Since rumors about Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 and the ‘Super Switch’ abound, the latest seems to have big implications if the two are indeed linked.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 was first announced in 2019, and fans have been speculating ever since about its release. A recent leak from an online retailer suggested that the Breath of nature the sequel is likely to come as early as the second quarter of 2021, a welcome surprise for players who can’t wait to return to Hyrule. A recent mail report indicates that another Nintendo Direct is in the works, and the video game giant may be planning to announce a release date later.
This possible date also coincides suspiciously well with the resurgence of rumors that Nintendo is working on an upgraded version of the Switch. There has been speculation about the console for more than a year, but Nintendo’s recent denial of the so-called Super Switch has been very carefully worded. The company claimed earlier this week that it has no plans to announce a new version of the console anytime soon, which means it plans to do so later this year. With interest in the new console and the Zelda the sequel to an all-time high, many fans return to the theory that Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 will be a Super Switch launch title.

A perfect launch title
The original Breath of nature was an incredibly successful launch title for the Nintendo Switch, so it’s easy to see why Nintendo might want to release Breath of the Wild 2 next to the Super Switch. Although the original BotW was incredible to look at, but it was also famous for the limitations of the Switch’s hardware. BotW 2 will use the same card as the original, so releasing the sequel on a more powerful device will showcase the new capabilities of the new model. The move would be almost poetic; at a time in history when many people want them to go back in time so players can rediscover Hyrule on a brand new console will do just that.
Unfortunately, the evidence is that Breath of the Wild 2 is only a few months away is quite thin. The current rumor is based on a date leaked by an Austrian retailer called Gameware, which promised a release date of Q2 2021. However, fans quickly pointed out that boxing art on the site is a photoshopping fan art. Although the site has had a good record of leaking correct release dates in the past, it seems more of a mistake than anything else. The listing is still available, albeit with a modified release date of 2021. It is possible that Nintendo requested ‘Q2’ to be removed, but it is likely that this was done proactively to protect the site from legal issues.
Time for a switch
Although this particular Breath of the Wild 2 rumors are in doubt, now is the perfect time for Nintendo to release an updated version of the Switch. Nintendo has a record of launching more powerful versions of its consoles about halfway through their life cycles and told investors in May 2020 that the Switch was ‘barely in the middle’ of its own lifespan. With the recent trend of console versions and Nintendo’s own repetitions about handheld products, it adds that it might be able to do the same.
Simply put, Nintendo does not need to sell a Super Switch, as the original Switch still sells incredibly well. The Switch was the best-selling console of 2020, with higher sales than any other year, but if the company ever plans to release a new Switch model, the window goes to do so. Fans are likely to start asking for Nintendo’s next console by the end of 2021, and once they do, the perceived value of an upgraded current console will drop. Nintendo has a fantastic opportunity to take advantage of the huge popularity of the Switch, and this is the year to do so Breath of the Wild 2 on tow.
As Breath of the Wild 2 is an exclusive Super Switch version, Nintendo will probably only be able to sell consoles based on that title. Q2 2021 looks a bit early for both releases, especially since the next Nintendo Direct has not even been announced yet, but that does not mean the possibility of dying here. Fortunately, the two products seem to be linked, and as Nintendo reveals more information about the one, fans may be able to learn more about the other.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 is in development for Nintendo Switch.
