Break up the full details of Jared Goff-Matthew Stafford’s trade

One of the largest trades in the history of Detroit Lions has now been officially completed. The deal that brings QB Jared Goff and a slew of drafts to Detroit in exchange for QB Matthew Stafford officially hit the NFL books and transaction thread on Thursday.

As a result, we now know the draft compensation the Lions are picking up in the deal.

According to the NFL’s transaction log, the Rams are sending the Lions their first round in 2022 and 2023. This is well known. That is the question in the third round in 2021. It will be a compensatory choice and not the Rams’ usual third round.

Los Angeles has two appearances in the third round and the exact choice is not explicitly summarized in the transaction log. So instead of number 88 overall, it is either No. 101 or No. 103.

Processing of the deal was delayed one day, so the Rams would be responsible for the $ 2.5 million roster bonus on Goff’s contract. This could possibly be taken into account in the negotiations for which the third round ends up in Detroit.

As for the contracts, Goff will earn $ 25,650,000 in 2021, with all but $ 650,000 fully guaranteed. The Lions are officially on the hook for $ 33 million in dead capital money to trade away Stafford’s contract, according to Over The Cap.
