Brazil’s Covid 19 death toll reaches highest daily record so far

According to the Ministry of Health, Brazil on Tuesday reported 2,841 coronavirus-related deaths. This is the highest daily death toll since the pandemic.

The country’s total death toll from Covid-19 now stands at 282,127.

In addition, 83,926 new Covid-19 cases were reported Tuesday, bringing the total case load to 11,603,535.

On Monday, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro announced the appointment of cardiologist Marcelo Queiroga as the country’s fourth health minister since the pandemic in March last year. Queiroga replaces the current Minister, Army General Eduardo Pazuello, who has led the Ministry of Health since 16 May 2020.

According to Bolsonaro, the transition to the Ministry of Health will take place in a few weeks.

Meanwhile, governors of the most popular regions in the country have announced the adoption of night clocks and more restrictive measures to try to limit the spread of the virus.

Fourteen of the twenty-six Brazilian states, plus the Federal District, are under curfew – usually between 8pm and 5am. – most of them have been enforced in the past week.

In addition, 18 state governments have announced more restrictive measures in the past five days.
