Braves put Chris Martin on a 10-day injured list

The Braves announced this right hand Chris Martin was placed on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to April 7) due to inflammation in his throwing shoulder. Right Jacob Webb was called up from the alternative yard to take Martin’s 26-man position.

Martin has not played since April 4, when he was removed from a match after having numbness in his right fingers. The issue was not considered serious enough for an MRI, and Brian Snitker, manager of Braves, said on Monday that he hoped Martin would be available in the game against the Phillies already, so the shoulder inflammation could be a relatively new problem. With the backdated placement in mind, Atlanta could simply follow the cautious route and give Martin another week to get him ready before getting him back up the hill.

Martin reached a deadline in July 2019 and has a 2.65 ERA, 29.65% pass rate and an excellent 3.5% walking rate over 37 1/3 innings in an Atlanta uniform. The 34-year-old plays a key role in the bullpen as a set-up man, and it is possible that Martin will occasionally get a chance to save, depending on how fluid the Braves want to be with their relief.
