Brandon Staley Head Coach, agrees to the terms

The Los Angeles Chargers today agree with Brandon Staley as the 17th head coach in franchise history. Staley was the Los Angeles Rams defense coordinator in 2020 after spending three seasons as the coach of Denver (2019) and Chicago (2017-18). Staley’s introductory press conference will be held on Thursday, January 21, with more details to follow.

“It doesn’t matter if you know Brandon for five or five years. What quickly becomes apparent is the amount of energy and passion he approaches every moment,” said John Spanos, president of the football industry. “The consistency of that enthusiasm is unique and, more importantly, it drives his ability to connect with people. His coaching journey to this particular moment is inspiring; if it is not for the perseverance and determination of everything, then it certainly is. for the dramatic results it produced for the teams and players he coached.I know it’s a cliché, but I know Brandon literally can not wait to get to work.I also know that we are no longer excited could be to have him as the head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers. “

Staley has coached four Pro Bowlers, some of the most dominant NFL players in recent memory – Khalil Mack in 2018, Von Miller in 2019 and Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey this season. Three of the players (Mack, Donald and Ramsey) were also recognized by The Associated Press as first-team All-Pro picks.

“It’s not just that Brandon has a tremendous football spirit that makes him the ideal head coach to lead our team forward,” said Tom Telesco, general manager. “It’s that he’s excellent at the ability to effectively adapt, apply and communicate his concepts to players. It’s clear that Brandon will not be extravagant, he’s the football equivalent of a gym, and it has him the universal respect of the players he coached during his journey. ‘

“It’s hard to put into words how excited I am for the opportunity to be the Los Angeles Chargers’ head coach,” Staley said. “While it’s definitely a dream come true, it’s also a dream that has just begun. There’s a reason why it was probably the most popular job there – from ownership, to the fans, the city, to the men in that locker room – that’s the whole package.I can not thank the Spanos family and Tom Telesco enough for the trust in us, and by the time everyone reads this quote in a press release, we will already be working hard on developing a program Chargers can be proud of everywhere. “
