Bowling Green State student in critical condition, brotherhood suspended after alleged fog

A student at Bowling Green State University is in critical condition following a suspected haze incident involving alcohol, which led to a fraternity being placed on interim suspension.

Local branch of CBS WBNS-TV reported that the incident allegedly took place in Pi Kappa Alpha (PIKE) Thursday from campus of Ohio school.

Family lawyer Sean Alto identified the student as second-year student Stone Foltz. The lawyer tells ABC News On Saturday, Foltz is kept alive while doctors work to donate his organs.

The fraternity’s international organization told ABC it was “appalled and outraged” by the incident, adding that the Bowling Green chapter was placed on administrative suspension.

University leaders said they will meet with students to determine the long-term future of brotherhood and companionship on campus.

“As more details are confirmed, we will also seek the permanent suspension of Delta Beta Chapter, as well as the expulsion of all members of the chapter from the International Frathood,” the Pi Kappa Alpha international organization told ABC.

The organization wrongly told the news in its initial statement that Foltz had died.

“We express our deepest sympathy to the student’s family and friends and to all those affected by this tragic loss,” the statement, which was later updated to remove any suggestion that Foltz had died, read.

Alto calls the fraternity’s initial statement that Foltz died “insensitive and inappropriate.”

“The information is still coming out, just wait and gather the facts,” Alto told ABC. ‘It’s awful to do it in front of the family. They are exclusively focused on their son, their brother, their grandson. ‘

A social media post from Foltz’s mother that Alto shared with CBS ‘subsidiary Toledo, Ohio WTOL encouraged people not to promote false information about her son’s condition.

“Please be respectful, considerate and passionate,” she wrote. ‘Please do not comment on the information you have heard. Stone is still with us for the time to donate his organs. Embrace your children and tell them every day how much you love them. ‘

The university has a strict anti-hazing policy which says, “the BGSU community is unconditionally opposed to any situation that is intentionally created to cause mental or physical discomfort, embarrassment, harassment or ridicule. ”

The school defines deforestation as “any action or activity which has the purpose or consequence of causing bodily or mental harm, embarrassment or anxiety or which is a violation of the law”, as well as “any action or situation student in connection with an introduction to, a commitment to or maintaining membership of any organization, club, team or activity affiliated with the University. ‘

“It is not a defense against a violation of this policy that an individual consented to the alleged uncovering activity or that the alleged uncovering activity took place outside the University’s premises,” the policy adds.
